Alcatel Signs Multi-Million Dollar Fiber-to-the-User Contract With EATEL
DALLAS, June 16 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Alcatel today announced the signing of a multi-million dollar contract to provide EATEL with a complete Fiber-to-the-User (FTTU) network to deliver a full range of voice and data communications services in Louisiana. This is Alcatel's second FTTU deployment in Louisiana and first with an incumbent operator in the state, reflecting continued growth of FTTU networks throughout the country.
An incumbent communications carrier since 1935, and a Competitive Local Exchange Carrier (CLEC) in some of its coverage areas, EATEL serves 100,000 residential and business customers in Louisiana (Gonzales, Baton Rouge, Lafayette, Houma/Thibodeaux and New Orleans areas). EATEL is committed to FTTU and will deploy this network for all new construction developments. EATEL also plans to upgrade the existing copper connections in its network to fiber over time.
"Alcatel has designed an all-optical access solution that will enable us to offer any service mix that our customers demand, while realizing the benefits of increased reliability and lower maintenance expenses. We look forward to working with Alcatel again, this time on FTTU," said Dan Ahern, president of EATEL.
"The Alcatel 7340 is built specifically for FTTU and delivers a scalable solution to support mass deployment of rich media services, enabling our customers to provide advanced video, voice and data services through a cost- optimized, future-proof fiber network," said Mike Dobbs, senior vice president of Alcatel's access networks activities in North America.
The Alcatel 7340 platform is a market leading FTTU solution that leverages Alcatel's access expertise, market position, and innovation. Capitalizing on Alcatel's wireline broadband access technology leadership, the Alcatel 7340 platform enables established and emerging service providers to cost- effectively deliver high revenue, next generation broadband services today over a single optical fiber.
