Biophan to Present Nanotechnology Solutions for $40 Billion Drug Delivery Market at Nanomedicine Conference; Company to Outline Proprietary Technologies at Conference on Commercial Drug Discovery, Delivery, and Diagnostics
ROCHESTER, N.Y. --(Business Wire)-- Sept. 30, 2005 -- Biophan Technologies, Inc. (OTCBB: BIPH) (Frankfurt/FSE: BTN), a developer of next-generation medical technology, announced that John Lanzafame, President of Biophan's Nanolution division, will present the Company's nanotechnology-based solutions in a presentation at the two-day Nanomedicine Conference on Commercializing Drug Discovery, Delivery, and Diagnostics at the Hyatt Regency Cambridge, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on October 3, 2005 at 3:30 pm ET.
Mr. Lanzafame will highlight the Company's proprietary solutions for the $40 billion drug-delivery marketplace in a presentation entitled, "Novel Nanomaterials for Next-Generation Drug Delivery."
"The best example of current combination products is drug eluting stents, which have had success in opening clogged arterial pathways and preventing restenosis even with limited control over the rate of drug elution from the stent," Mr. Lanzafame said. "Nanomaterials hold the promise to achieve exciting new levels of control, including active drug delivery using nanomagnetic materials for controlled drug release. We believe these materials, as well as other nanostructured materials for more precisely controlled drug delivery, offer substantial promise for the next generation of combination products for use in fields such as cardiology and orthopedics."
The Nanomedicine Conference will feature cutting-edge R&D and commercialization strategies in a range of presentations, panels and networking opportunities with representatives from industry, government and academia. The conference will also feature sessions covering the following topics:
-- Nanotechnology-based Drug Discovery;
-- Nano Applications in Drug Delivery and Routes to Commercialization; and
-- Applications of Dendrimers, Quantum Dots, Fullerenes in Molecular Imaging and Diagnostics.
About the Nanomedicine Conference
The meeting will cover a breadth of topics from the Nanotechnology sector as it applies to life sciences, including novel platforms and approaches to therapeutic discovery, diagnostic tools and screening, drug delivery and device applications, as well as quantum dots. Audience interactive panels address commercial opportunities and IP issues in Nanotechnology in drug development. The Conference is organized by the Strategic Research Institute. About Biophan Technologies
Biophan develops and markets cutting-edge technologies designed to make biomedical devices safe and image compatible with the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) environment. The Company develops technologies that enable implanted medical systems such as pacemakers, interventional surgical devices such as catheters and guidewires, and devices such as stents to be safely and effectively imaged under MRI. Biophan is developing these same technologies to provide new MRI contrast agents. Other applications include drug delivery and power systems derived from body heat. Four Biophan technologies include advances in nanotechnology and thin film coatings. Committed to growth through innovation and developmental leadership, Biophan and its licensors now hold a total of 156 U.S. patents, licenses, or applications. This total includes 41 issued U.S. patents, 9 recently-allowed applications that will issue as patents in the near future, and 106 pending applications at various stages of examination at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, plus international applications. The patents cover areas including nanotechnology (nanomagnetic particle coatings), medical device designs, radio frequency filters, polymer composites, thermoelectric materials for batteries generating power from body heat, and photonics. Biophan has joint development and licensing agreements with Boston Scientific and NASA's Ames Center for Nanotechnology. Biophan's goal is to make all biomedical devices capable of safely and successfully working with MRI, and delivering other technologies which will improve quality of life. Biophan is also listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol BTN. For more information, please visit www.biophan.com.
