Even The U.S. Government Likes E-Learning
By Tracey E. Schelmetic, Editorial Director, Customer Interaction Solutions
E-learning has quietly replaced traditional learning in a number of ways, yet in extreme stealth. Many people don't know what the term "e-learning" means, though they regularly take part in it. The Internet is a wonderful medium for interactive learning. People seem to prefer it (clicking the mouse seems infinitely preferable to many people who abhor the old-fasioned "penciling in the little bubbles" method). Not only can Web-based educational programs provide coaching and testing before, during and after the learning process, but students can get immediate scoring and feedback, and the learning can be far more entertaining, including animation, photos, video, sounds and simulations: things that a blank sheet of paper can never provide. Additionally, and this is where e-learning has the advantage over classroom learning, students can progress at their own pace.
It seems that in addition to schools and call centers, the U.S. government likes Web-based instruction, as well. E-learning company GeoLearning, Inc., (which calls itself a "Managed Learning Services and hosted learning technology" provider), today announced the completion and launch of USALearning.gov, the U.S. federal government’s employee training site. USALearning also features an enhanced course catalog, the addition of GeoLearning Analytics for measuring training effectiveness, and expanded reporting capabilities for agency-focused and government-wide reports.
Designed, hosted and maintained by GeoLearning for the U.S. Office of Personnel Management/GoLearn (OPM/GoLearn), USALearning is powered by the GeoMaestro learning management platform. Government agencies using USALearning.gov include Department of the Interior, Department of Commerce, Department of Homeland Security, Social Security Administration, Department of Education, Department of Health & Human Services, Department of Housing & Urban Development, Securities & Exchange Commission and Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
