Norwegian web browser developer Opera Software has announced an extended partnership with Amino, an IPTV software and equipment provider based in the UK. Amino will now offer Opera 8.5 as an option for its Aminet 110 set-top boxes. The companies will also work together to integrate Opera's browser technologies into future products.
Amino said the Opera browser's relatively low memory footprint made it ideal for integration with its set-top boxes. Opera's technology has been ported on top of Amino's IPTV software stack in the set-top box. Amino customers will now have the option of a web-based user interface with which they can surf the internet on their TV sets.
The Opera browser will also be included in Amino's Software Development Kit. Since Opera uses open standards, software developers will be able to easily develop interoperable applications.
The Aminet 110 set-top boxes are currently available with the Opera browser. Amino's middleware vendors, including Dreampark and Alcatel, also have solutions available for set-top boxes that run Opera 8.5
