EXPORTS' PILL TURNS SWEET FOR INDIAN PHARMACEUTICAL BIGGIES (during Oct-Dec 2005, Indian pharmaceutical companies recorded a 19- 66% growth in international business)

During Oct-Dec 2005, Indian pharmaceutical companies like Nicholas Piramal India Ltd (NPIL), Cipla, Lupin and Glenmark Pharmaceuticals, recorded a 19-66 percent growth in international business.
NPIL registered a 66.2 percent growth in its exports to Rs65 crore during Oct-Dec 2005. Its export sales now account for 18.4 percent of the company's income. In the case of Lupin, exports increased by 56 percent to Rs207.80 crore with significant contribution from North America and Europe.
In the case of Cipla, its exports of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) rose by 94.2 percent to Rs150.26 crore and exports of formulations increased by 13.6 percent to Rs236.09 crore. The total exports of Cipla rose by 35.4 percent. Exports of Glenmark Pharmaceuticals rose by 18 percent to Rs53.90 crore.
