Bahrain and Turkey to sign anti-terror accord

(Gulf News Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)Manama: Bahrain and Turkey will next month sign an anti-terror agreement that will reinforce their pledge to combat terrorism at international levels, diplomatic sources on Saturday told Gulf News.

The accord, the first between the two countries in the security field, will be signed during the visit of the Turkish Interior Minister Abdul Kadir Aksu.

Although its main thrust is on terror, the accord will also include cooperation in security and the trafficking of drugs and persons.

Only Saudi Arabia from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states has a similar pact with Turkey, signed two weeks ago during a visit by Aksu to Riyadh.

Bahrain's accord with Turkey reinforces the drive of the kingdom's authorities to address the problems besetting the region and to contribute significantly to the global anti-terrorism fight.
