Koizumi seeks ties with Kuwait in aiding Iraq+

(Japan Economic Newswire Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)TOKYO, March 28_(Kyodo) _ Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi called for a continued joint effort with Kuwait in aiding Iraq's reconstruction in a meeting Tuesday with Kuwaiti Ambassador to Japan Ghassan Yousuf al-Zawawi, the ambassador said.

Koizumi thanked Kuwait for its support of the Japanese Air Self-Defense Force wing which is based in Kuwait to help airlift supplies for the multinational forces in Iraq, the envoy told reporters at the premier's official residence.

Al-Zawawi said he extended an invitation to Koizumi to visit Kuwait before he steps down in September, but Koizumi later told reporters, "I cannot say (whether I will accept it), because the Diet is in session now."

Japanese ministers have to get the parliament's consent to travel abroad while a session is under way. The current session runs through June 18.
