Indesit to Produce 1 Million Refrigerators in 2007

(Polish News Bulletin Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)Italy's Indesit spent EUR10m on expanding its refrigerator factory in Lodz, where the second production line has been launched. Indesit's investment director Massimo Rosini says the move was motivated by increasing demand in this part of Europe for the products manufactured in Lodz. Following the modification, Indesit's output capacity will increase from 2,000 refrigerators per day to 3,200. It means the Italian company will manufacture a total of 600,000 refrigerators this year. Next year, that number may reach one million. The investment will also translate into 500 new jobs. Indesit's competitor Amica is not worried about the expansion in Lodz. As a response, it plans to implement its own cost-cutting strategy, introduce new products and further develop its exports. This year, more home equipment factories will be built in Poland, two of them by Electrolux - in Olawa and Swidnica.
