XL awards network expansion contract to Alcatel-Lucent
(Tele.com Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) A multi-million Euro (EUR) GSM/GPRS network expansion contract has been awarded to communications solutions provider Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris:ALU)(NYSE:ALU) by PT Excelcomindo Pratama Tbk (XL), a mobile service provider in Indonesia.
Alcatel-Lucent said the new contract will mainly cover the provincial capital and main cities on the Indonesian island of Sumatra and allow XL to provide mobile service to more of the almost 45m people living on the island.
According to Alcatel-Lucent, it will provide hundreds of new base stations, its Evolium Base Station Subsystem hardware and software and a suite of network integration services for XL. These services will include network optimisation, system support and general project management.
XL said the network deployment is intended to improve the quality of communications services in Sumatra, meet increasing customer demand for service, boost customer satisfaction and have a positive effect on economic growth.
Alcatel-Lucent confirmed the project extends the range of wireless solutions it provides to XL, having previously deployed 2G mobile network equipment for XL in the Aceh Province, in the past.
