(Business Day (South Africa) Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) Rudimentals get in on UB40 gigs THE Rudimentals have been selected to support legendary reggae ambassadors UB40 on their highly anticipated South African tour. UB40 kick off their tour in Durban on July 4, before appearing in Joburg on July 6 and in Cape Town on July 9 and 10. The award-winning group has released 23 albums, sold more than 50-million copies, had 53 chart singles, performed alongside U2, Pink Floyd, Coldplay, Madonna, Robbie Williams and The Who, collaborated with top Jamaican dancehall artists, and played to millions of fans around the globe during their illustrious 25-year career. Their seasoned reggae music has continued to popularise the genre around the world, with a fan base too vast to be defined by age, generation or culture.


It is these qualities that perfectly describe The Rudimentals, whose live shows have captured the imagination of people of all ages, tastes and social groups.

Their music is a blend of pan-African ska, dancehall rap, dope reggae rhythms and vintage '70s ska, with a hint of jazz and the blues, and has spent considerable time at the top of this country's MP3 charts. They released their first album More Fire in 2003, and topped the SA Rock Digest charts, while the single Noh TV received a National Stone Award for the best-directed video. Their second album, Set It Proper, released last year, received rave reviews. UK label Moonska World (home of The Specials, The Selecter and The Toasters) recently signed The Rudimentals, and will be promoting and distributing the album throughout the UK, Europe and Asia.
