Hyundai Sets Monthly Sales Record in June

253,846 units sold worldwide, best month on record

Hyundai Motor Company has posted its best monthly sales performance ever as sales rose 11.4 percent to 253,846 units on a global basis from a year earlier.

This brings first half sales to a record high of 1,481,152 units, a 14.2 percent year-on-year increase.

“While we’re concerned by escalating oil and commodity prices, we’re on track to reach our sales target of 3 million units for this year thanks to brisk demand in China, India, as well as through our efforts in emerging markets such as Russia and the Middle East,” a Hyundai official said.

Hyundai’s three Korean plants received overseas orders for 102,570 units, 6.1 percent more than a year earlier. The company’s four overseas manufacturing subsidiaries—India, Turkey, China and USA—sold 102,975 units for a 38.0 percent y-o-y improvement thanks to brisk sales at the company’s plants in China and India.

Established in 1967, Hyundai Motor Co. has grown into the Hyundai-Kia Automotive Group which was ranked as the world’s fifth largest automaker in 2007 and includes over two dozen auto-related subsidiaries and affiliates. Employing over 75,000 people worldwide, Hyundai Motor posted sales of US$74.9 billion in 2007 on a consolidated-basis and US$32.8 billion on a non-consolidated basis (using the average currency exchange of 929 won per US dollar). Hyundai vehicles are sold in 193 countries through some 6,000 dealerships and showrooms. Further information about Hyundai Motor Co. and its products is available at http://www.hyundai-motor.com
