HIGH-END BLU-RAY MODELS MOST POPULAR OF DVD RECORDERS IN JAPAN

TOKYO, Nov 21, 2008 (AsiaPulse via COMTEX) --
Japanese consumers can be
expected to purchase top-of-the-line Blu-ray Disc recorders,
according to a survey on DVD recorder sales forecasts for the
year-end shopping season.
In the Nikkei Inc. survey, sales personnel from five volume
electronics retailers were asked to name the DVD recorder they
expected to sell the most as well as others they presumed would
fare well. Blu-ray has clearly become the main format in this
field, with just two respondents naming non-Blu-ray models,
down from four in a survey conducted this summer.
Panasonic Corp.'s (TSE:6752) DMR-BW830 will likely be the
best-selling model, according to the survey. This model, which
sells for just under 150,000 yen (US$1,596), has a 500GB hard

drive and two tuners so that users can record TV shows on two
channels simultaneously.
Panasonic's DMR-BR500, which was the favorite in the summer
survey, is expected to sell briskly this season as well. It has
one tuner and is available for less than 100,000 yen.
Several respondents also named Sharp Corp.'s (TSE:6753)
BD-HDW25, which is considered reasonably priced for a high-end
Blu-ray recorder.
