Tekelec Enables Policy Control, Authentication and Charging in IMS Networks at Plugfest 6
(Marketwire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) MORRISVILLE, NC, February 25 / MARKET WIRE/ --
Tekelec (NASDAQ: TKLC), the network signaling, mobile messaging and
performance management company, achieved interoperability with two IP
multimedia subsystem (IMS) networks at the NGN/IMS ForumPlugfest 6, demonstrating
advanced calling scenarios between multiple operator networks for the first
time. The test event, held Jan. 12-16, 2009 at the University of New
Hampshire InterOperability Lab (UNH IOL) in Durham, N.H., brought 11
participating vendors to create networks supporting up to 250,000 user
sessions.
Tekelec's EAGLE? XGCall Session Control Function (CSCF), which provides core session initiation protocol (SIP) signaling and control within IMS
networks, successfully tested with home subscriber servers (HSS), user
equipment (UE), an offline charging system, an instant messaging
application server and other CSCFs. The Tekelec EAGLE XG CSCF demonstrated
the session flows required for IMS adoption by completing roaming of local
subscribers to foreign networks and roaming of foreign subscribers to local
networks.
Tekelec validated the EAGLE XG CSCF session flows with an instant messaging
application server in various 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP)
roaming scenarios, and its secure authentication and key agreement (AKA)
procedures. AKA requires complex interaction between equipment, CSCFs and
the HSS, and must be vetted as part of a reliable IMS deployment.
"Each Plugfest takes IMS a step further, and shows how operators can evolve
from
next-generation networks (NGNs) to an IMS architecture," said Ron de Lange,
executive vice president at Tekelec. "Tekelec's EAGLE XG CSCF provides the
cost-effective scalability, flexibility and reliability to grow with
service providers' network needs and manage the complexities of new
technologies, resources and applications."
Tekelec's EAGLE XG CSCF bridges existing and new services in
next-generation networks (NGNs), hybrid networks and IMS scenarios,
providing a common signaling and session control layer in all domains. The
application separates the transport, control and application layers to
allow operators to reuse common components such as presence and location
and run a wide range of converged services across any access network.
Plugfest 6 participants set up the two simulated IMS networks in one and a
half days and tested user equipment, application servers, service creation
and robustness. The event was the first Plugfest to simultaneously achieve
policy control, charging and the wide support of IP applications. Specific
testing included complex call flows involving multi-vendor equipment in a
single domain, inter and multi-domain configurations, and off-line billing
scenarios.

IMS network architectures, Tekelec has a Frost & Sullivan report, "Migration Strategies for Success," available for download.

About the NGN and IMS Forums(TM)
The NGN/IMS Forum is the only global telecommunications association devoted
to
Next-Generation Network (NGN) service delivery and interoperable IP
Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) services architectures and solutions.
The Forum's mission is to accelerate the interoperability of IMS and NGN
services and to enable enterprise and residential consumers to benefit
fully from the delivery of M-play(TM): rich multimedia, mobility and fixed
services over wireline, cable, GSM, UMTS, Wi-Fi, WiMAX, LTE and fiber
broadband networks. The Forum is the creator and organizer of the IMS
Plugfests(TM) and NGN Plugfests(TM), the industry's only events focused on
verification and certification of IMS and NGN service interoperability
through the IMS Certified(TM) and NGN Certified(TM) programs.
Through organized Plugfests, technical working groups and other activities,
Forum members develop cost-effective technical frameworks for revenue
generating converged IP NGN solutions. The combined organizations include
over 2,500 executives and technical, business development and marketing
professionals from global and emerging equipment vendors, solution
providers, integrators, service providers, and governmental agencies.
