China Telecom to kick off nationwide commercial use of 3G business on April 16

SHANGHAI, Apr 13, 2009 (Xinhua via COMTEX) -- An insider with China Telecom (0728.HK; CHA.NYSE) reveals that the carrier will announce the official commencement of its 3G business on April 16 in over 100 cities of Chinese mainland, and publish related charging policy.


The telecom operator's branch in Shanghai had initiated the trial commercial use of its 3G business on March 15, which was followed by Jiangsu Province, Beijing, and Hainan Province.

According to the carrier's development plan, it will have the 3G network cover the urban areas of China's prefecture-level cities by May 17, and extend the coverage to all the towns and key villages across the nation.
