Net Optics Teams With TippingPoint to Help Enterprises Ensure Business Continuity in the Face of Rising Threats
SANTA CLARA, CA, May 06, 2009 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX) --
Net Optics, Inc., a leading provider of network access devices,
today announced the company has teamed with TippingPoint, a leader in
intrusion prevention, to help enterprises more effectively address
their business continuity requirements. The two companies are now
offering a network monitoring and security solution that combines the
Net Optics iBypass Switch with Heartbeat(TM) technology and
TippingPoint's Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPSs). The combined
solution protects against power, link and application loss, thereby
increasing application availability and network security.
Malicious and unpredictable attacks have become commonplace and have
blurred the lines of responsibility between IT network and security
organizations. As a result, both groups often deploy separate tools
and monitoring devices on the same important, business-critical
network links. One strategy for minimizing disruptive outages and
further extending the return on investment for IPS investments is to
pair the IPS with an external Zero Power High Availability (ZPHA)
device, also called a bypass switch.
The Net Optics iBypass Switch is a passive, in-line bypass switch
that maintains seamless network flow, a capability that is
particularly critical when deploying in-line IPS appliances. The
iBypass Switch provides both a fail-open network path in the event of
power loss, and the ability to automatically initiate and enable
bypass mode should the appliance fail, or require maintenance,
repair, or removal. A Net Optics Four-Station Multi-Segment Bypass
Switch is an ideal companion for TippingPoint 5000E and 2400E IPSs
because together they can protect four critical network links with as
much as 5 Gbps of total traffic, with high reliability and the
flexibility of being able to remove or upgrade the IPS at any time,
without risking the availability of critical business applications.
"As the growth of the Internet is driving the need for global
networks to connect businesses, organizations, and individuals, the
need to control and protect the flow of information has dramatically
increased as well," said Bob Shaw, president and CEO at Net Optics.
"By teaming with TippingPoint, we are helping to ensure the highest
levels of availability, reliability and security for the networks on
which mission critical applications and services rely."
TippingPoint's Intrusion Prevention Systems provide Application
Protection, Performance Protection and Infrastructure Protection at
multi-gigabit speeds through total packet inspection. The system is
built upon TippingPoint's Threat Suppression Engine (TSE) -- a highly
specialized hardware-based intrusion prevention platform consisting
of state-of-the-art network processor technology and TippingPoint's
own set of custom ASICs.
"TippingPoint Intrusion Detection Systems are designed to the highest
reliability standards, enabling customers to deploy them in-band in
their networks without worrying about adversely impacting the
availability of the mission-critical business applications and
services," said Arlan Harris, senior vice president and general
manager at TippingPoint. "Deploying our IPS appliances in
conjunction with a Net Optics iBypass Switch adds a further level of
fault-tolerance and security without jeopardizing network
performance."
The Net Optics/TippingPoint solution is available through authorized
resellers, or direct from each company.
