Image Sensing Systems, a developer of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) computer-enabled detection and traffic control technology, announced the shipment of close to 200 units of the RTMS G4 radar product to Tennessee DOT (TDOT) for its SmartWay transportation infrastructure project.
According to officials, this shipment brings the total number of RTMS radars in the state to over 1,000 units.
SmartWay is Tennessee's intelligent transportation system which uses information technologies for the safety and operation of highways and other transportation modes. SmartWay also uses electronic message boards and highway advisory radios to send urgent traffic notices to drivers along the highways.
In addition to the Chattanooga installation, RTMS is deployed in cities such as Knoxville, Nashville, and Memphis.
Reflecting on the continued deployment of RTMS throughout the state, Ali Farhangi, TDOT's Nashville Traffic Management Center Manager, said, "We have been very pleased with the product quality and support we have received from the RTMS suppliers. We are glad to have the technology to complement our other suite of ITS technologies in the SmartWay project."
Mike Hoover, ITS Director of Vanus, a regional ITS consulting company involved with the SmartWay project, said, "I have previously been involved with many large scale deployments of RTMS products and I am looking forward to another successful project utilizing the new RTMS G4 technology on the Chattanooga Tennessee SmartWay project." Vice President of North American RTMS Sales for ISS, Mike Ouellette, stated, "This nation-wide sustained deployment is a testament to the broad acceptance of the RTMS radar's unique attributes and capabilities such as low cost, easy and safe to install and low power requirement. RTMS offers a complete portfolio of integrated solutions for highway traffic management, including data collection, incident detection and work zone safety."
Image Sensing Systems is a technology company focused in infrastructure productivity improvement.
