ViewSonic to Lunch CDMA2000 Smartphones for Chinese

BEIJING, Aug 11, 2009 (SinoCast Daily Business Beat via COMTEX) -- Display maker ViewSonic Corporation is set to start the sale of its first type of cellphones in October 2009 to customers of China Telecom Corporation Ltd. (SEHK: 0728 and NYSE: CHA), citing a report.

Compatible with China Telecom's CDMA2000 EVDO network, these smartphones will adopt the Windows Mobile 6.5 operating system developed by Microsoft Corporation (NADAQ: MSFT). Besides, the cellphones' 3.6-inch wide extended graphics array (WVGA) touch screens are likely to bring enjoyable experience to users, partly depending on their 800-by-480 resolution.

Analysts believed that the new products would largely excite China Telecom, which has been tortured by the lack of CDMA2000 cellphones with international brands. On the other hand, the company's CDMA2000 EVDO network is China's best 3G network in terms of signal penetrability.

In addition, ViewSonic set up its telecoms product arm just about two months ago, and plans to put up other two types of high-end 3G mobile phones after the promotion for the first batch.
