BRIEF: "It took my breath away'

Nov 07, 2009 (The Lebanon Reporter - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Thursday's news of a shooting at the U.S. Army base Fort Hood in Texas left one local woman stunned and scared.

Lebanon resident Cheryl Urbanski's son, SPC Derek Jones, was in Fort Hood Thursday.

"My boss called me and said, 'Cheryl, you need to turn on CNN,'" Urbanski said. "Of course it took my breath away." Urbanski tried tirelessly for about two hours to reach Jones on his cell phone, but the signal was busy. Jones' cell is "never, ever busy," she said, prompting concern.

But at roughly 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Urbanski heard the voice she was desperately waiting for on the other end of the line -- "Hi, Mom."
