Burton's Final Floor Speech Of 2009:Stop Spending Now

Dec 19, 2009 (Congressional Documents and Publications/ContentWorks via COMTEX) -- WASHINGTON, D.C. - In his last speech to Congress of 2009, Rep. Dan Burton (R-IN-05) implored the Democrat Majority to stop their deficit spending. He delivered the speech shortly before the Democrat Majority narrowly won votes to increase the national debt ceiling and spend $150 Billion more in 'stimulus' money (even though less than a third of the $787 Billion in Stimulus 1 has been spent). The following are Rep. Burton's remarks from December 16, 2009 in the chamber of the U.S. House: See the video below: "There are people back home who may be watching this, and they hear the Democrats blaming the Republicans for all these things that are costing so much money, and [so the Democrats say] that is the reason we need to raise the national debt.

"You know, I look at the $1.4 trillion deficit last year, and we're already ahead of that this year. We're not in charge, you folks are. The health care bill that you're trying to ram through is going to cost $1-3 trillion and the 'Stimulus' bill is going to cost over a trillion dollars when you add interest.

"The bottom line is we've got to stop spending. We are spending too much money, whether you're a Democrat or a Republican. The American people back at home are saying 'get your house in order, quit spending so much money and live within your means like we have to.' "We have 10% unemployment right now and the people back home don't want us wasting money. That will end up resulting in us having to raise taxes which we don't want to do -- and I won't vote for -- and have inflation that's going to hang on our kids in the future. So we have to quit spending instead of just raising the debt." #DAL1234#
