Wenatchee man charged with cyberstalking
WENATCHEE, Jan 01, 2010 (The Wenatchee World - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
A 29-year-old Wenatchee man has been charged with cyberstalking for allegedly sending threatening messages through a Facebook account.
Jeramie P. Palmer was charged Dec. 7 in Chelan County Superior Court with three counts of felony cyberstalking. Under state law, cyberstalking is using electronic communication to threaten to injure or to kill someone.
According to court documents, Wenatchee Police began investigating a possible harassment case on Nov. 20, after an Idaho man said he received threatening messages on his Internet Facebook account.
The Idaho man said he grew up in Cashmere and now lives in Idaho and works as a state trooper. He sent a request via Facebook, a social networking site often used to reconnect with high school friends, to become online friends with a woman he went to high school with.
The documents state that he received an "obscene" message from the woman's Facebook account that threatened to kill him.
The Idaho man received three such messages, and each one threatened to shoot him or slit his throat, the documents state. One of the messages told him to lose the woman's e-mail address or "il blast ur punk (expletive) wit my 45 (expletive)." Another said "u better 4get u ever knew marie ... il blow ur (expletive) head off."
According to court documents, police contacted the woman and she said she had not used her Facebook account in awhile. But her ex-boyfriend, Palmer, had the password to her account.
Police then interviewed Palmer and sent a report to the Chelan County Prosecutor's Office. Prosecutors reviewed the report and issued a summons for Palmer to appear in court, where he was charged with the three felonies.
Palmer could not be reached for comment.
