Acme Packet chosen by state of Delaware
Jan 13, 2010 (TELECOMWORLDWIRE via COMTEX) --
The Department of Technology and Information (DTI), the organisation
that provides the technology infrastructure for the state of Delaware,
has deployed the Acme Packet's (Nasdaq:APKT) session border controllers
(SBCs), the provider of session border control solutions said on
Wednesday.
No financial details were disclosed.
Acme Packet said DTI has deployed its Net-Net 4250 SBCs in its two
datacentres to provide secure termination of the Verizon Burstable
Enterprise Shared Trunking (BEST) service. This allows the state to
save money by centralising its connection to the public switched
telephone network (PSTN) and reduce connection requirements for
multiple government agencies.
Through centralised SIP trunking, the DTI provides a hosted voicemail
platform with unified messaging services throughout the state,
eliminating the need for additional voicemail systems, maintenance and
administration expenses.
In the future, the Net-Net's security, interoperability and scalability
is also expected to enable DTI to deliver integrated data, voice and
video applications to various state agencies, enable connectivity to
PBXs in neighbouring states and facilitate communication in case of a
disaster.
The SBCs were employed to secure DTI's IP communication borders while
providing connectivity between various government offices throughout
the state. Because the state supports both SIP and H.323 IP-PBXs within
its network, the company's SIPconnect Compliant Net-Net SBCs with
SIP-H.323 interworking enable interoperability for the state's
disparate IP telephony infrastructure.
Communications between different IP-PBXs are routed through the SBCs
and translated to the proper protocol to complete the call, which
allows the state to reduce its total cost of ownership by leveraging
SIP trunking while keeping its current IP telephony infrastructure in
place.
