Stronger storm set to replace north state's morning fog
Feb 25, 2010 (The Sacramento Bee - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
Fog socked in the Sacramento and Stockton areas this morning -- a day before the second storm of the work week sweeps into Northern California.
The layer of gray covering Sacramento and points south to Modesto was expected to clear by 10 a.m, being replaced by partly to mostly cloudy skies today.
Low visibility did not prevent any take-offs or departures at Sacramento International Airport, but the fog prompted calls for drivers to use more caution.
Readings at 6 a.m. included one-quarter mile visibility at Sacramento Executive Airport, three-quarters of a mile at Sacramento International Airport, one-quarter mile at Stockton, a 1.75 miles at Modesto, three miles in Marysville and nine miles at Travis Air Force Base.
The conditions were ideal for fog this morning: cool temperatures after a rain.
"After Presidents' Day we get fog but it is not as likely that we get the widespread fog that we get in December and January," said Johnnie Powell, a National Weather Service meteorologist.
The coming storm is expected to be stronger than Tuesday's weather system. It is predicted to bring an inch of rain to the Sacramento Valley and a foot or two of snow to the Sierra Nevada.
