Cops: Arrests made in Valley Stream Radio Shack robbery [Newsday, Melville, N.Y.]

(Newsday (Melville, NY) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Mar. 4--The manager of a Radio Shack store in Valley Stream heard alarms going off inside the store Wednesday and went to investigate. What he found was a robbery in progress.

Nassau County police said two Brooklyn men were cutting alarmed security wire attached to digital cameras on display, then pocketing the cameras. The manager tried to stop the two, but they fled.

Police arrested the two men and a third man, who was driving the getaway van, are under arrest, each charged with second-degree robbery and fourth-degree grand larceny, police said.

Police said the incident took place at 2:30 p.m. at the Radio Shack at 100 Sunrise Hwy.

It was then, police said, that Michael Silva, 21, of Ralph Avenue, Brooklyn, and Tyrell Wilder, 24, of Bushwick Avenue, Brooklyn, entered the store and began cutting the security alarm wires to digital cameras on display. Police said that, in all, the duo pocketed four cameras before they were confronted by the store manager -- and fled into a waiting tan 2000 Chrysler Town and Country minivan driven by James Moore, 23, of Hollis, Queens. The van sped off, police said. But the store manager called 911.


The van was stopped on Sunrise Highway near Ocean Avenue in Rockville Centre where police said the trio was arrested -- and the stolen merchandise was recovered. The vehicle was impounded.

Silva, Wilder and Moore all are scheduled for arraignment Thursday in First District Court, Hempstead.
