State to start appliance replacement rebate program
GREENVILLE, Mar 13, 2010 (Greenville Herald-Banner - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
More than $23 million has been made available to Texas residents, including those in Hunt County, through a rebate program for the replacement of old appliances with those that are energy efficient.
Beginning in April, a total of $23,341,000 will be available for qualifying Texas residents who purchase residential ENERGY STAR appliance products through the Energy Efficient Appliance Rebate Program, a mail-in rebate program made possible by federal stimulus funds.
The program runs from April 16 through April 25 and is not retroactive. Those who purchase appliances within the time frame have 60 days to submit their paperwork for the rebate.
In Texas, the rebates will be administered through the Comptroller's State Energy Conservation Office.
In order to be eligible, one must be a Texas resident and purchase an appliance in-store from a Texas retailer with a new, energy-efficient model.
"These state rebates can be stacked with other rebates and incentives, such as manufacturer rebates and federal tax credits," read a press release from the office of Susan Combs, Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts. "Each household is eligible for up to two appliance rebates, as long as they are for two different types of appliances."
Consumers will be able to reserve appliance rebates on a first-come-first-served basis beginning April 5. In order to reserve a rebate, consumers must provide their name, address and appliance type.
Residents who recycle their old appliances will receive an additional $75 rebate.
Rebates are: $240 for refrigerators larger than 14.5 cubic feet, $180 for freezers larger than 14.5 cubic feet and $45 for room air conditioners.
Rebates for other appliances range between: $150 and $180 for washers, $110 and $140 for dishwashers, $600 and $1,000 for central air conditioners, $1,200 and $1,600 for air source heat pumps and $300 and $640 for hot water heaters.
More than $300 million has been made available nationwide for the program.
