BRIEF: Arab expat arrested for running illegal call cabin [Arab News, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia]

(Arab News (Saudi Arabia) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Mar. 15--MAKKAH -- Police arrested on Sunday an Arab expatriate who was running an illegal telephone service in Makkah.

Officials arrested the man on a tip-off provided by an official from the Saudi Telecom Company (STC) that an expatriate in Jeddah had contacted one of his technicians to activate the STC's Atheer Plus line.

The Atheer Plus service allows subscribers to communicate with others and exchange information via audio or Internet to areas with no landline service.

The STC official said the man was attempting to get connected to the service using the ID documents of several dead men.

The man apparently wanted to transfer the line to someone else for a high fee and so police set up a sting operation by asking the STC technician to go ahead with the deal so that they could arrest the man red handed.

This is not the first time the man has been involved in such a scam. The man is still being questioned.
