AirWalk Communications collaborates with Mindspeed and Aricent to develop LTE picocell
Mar 15, 2010 (TELECOMWORLDWIRE via COMTEX) --
IP-based CDMA cellular radio network equipment provider AirWalk
Communications Inc has announced it has collaborated with semiconductor
solutions provider Mindspeed Technologies Inc (Nasdaq:MSPD) and
communications technology company Aricent to develop an LTE picocell.
No financial details were disclosed.
The three companies said that a proof of concept will be on display at
the CTIA Wireless 2010 conference and exhibition in Las Vegas on 23-25
March 2010.
According to the company, AirWalk's migration path to an LTE product
line offers operators improved performance functionality through
increased spectrum efficiency, increased capacity, peak data rates and
low latency.
The LTE picocell in development incorporates Mindspeed's Transcede
next-generation wireless baseband processor and associated components.
It combines RISC processor technology with a high-performance DSP
processing array in a single chip, providing a low-cost/high-value
processing capability.
The picocell also relies on Aricent's software solution to provide a
robust platform. It incorporates selected elements from the Aricent LTE
eNodeB stack portfolio and includes a Layer 2 stack for multi-core
implementations.
AirWalk plans to begin offering an LTE product line starting with
picocells in 2011, followed by femtocells.
