Google's smart phone wins support from U.S. carrier Sprint

SAN FRANCISCO, Mar 17, 2010 (Xinhua via COMTEX) -- Sprint Nextel, the third largest wireless carrier in the United States, on Wednesday confirmed that Google's Nexus One smart phone will come to its 3G broadband network.

The pricing and exact availability date for Nexus One will be announced soon, Sprint said in a statement.

Sprint noted that Nexus One, the first smart phone sold by Google directly to consumers, can only be purchased at Google's online store and will not be available in any Sprint retail channels.

Sprint's official endorsement of Nexus One came a day after Google announced on Tuesday that it was starting to sell a new model of the smart phone compatible with the 3G network of AT&T, the No. 2 mobile carrier in the United States.



Google launched Nexus One in early January this year by first selling a model working on the 3G network of T-Mobile, the fourth largest U.S. wireless carrier.

The Internet company has promised that it will also provide models optimized for the network of Verizon Wireless, the largest U.S. wireless carrier.
