'Czech regulator reports on DVB-T transition status'
Mar 18, 2010 (DMEUROPE via COMTEX) --
Czech regulator CTU issued the fourth evaluation report on the status
of the transition from analogue to digital terrestrial broadcasting
(DVB-T) as of 15 March. Regarding timing the transition process is at
its middle point. For the period from May 2008 until 15 March
broadcasting networks 1 and 2, which currently broadcast nationwide
analogue TV programmes (CT1, CT2, Nova and Prima), were developed to
cover nearly 75 percent of the population. Analogue terrestrial
television broadcasting, however, was switched off only where
necessary. CTU concludes that the process meets the schedule. The
exception is the broadcasting network 4, for the development of which
there is no programme content available. Population coverage of network
1 is nearly 95 percent; coverage of network 2 is 73 percent and of
network 3 of 55 percent. The broadcasting network 4 provides coverage
of only 22 percent of the population of the Czech Republic (Prague,
Brno, Ostrava). On the progress so far, the objectives of the
transition process and the deadline for transition to DVB-T set by the
European Commission by the beginning of 2012 shall be met.
