Sprint to make Google's Nexus One handset available on its network
(Corporate IT Update Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) US mobile network operator Sprint (NYSE: S) confirmed late yesterday that it plans to support the Google Nexus One Android based handset on its network, but did not disclose any details of pricing or availability, saying that it expects to make a further announcement soon.
The company said that the handset will not be available through Sprint retail channels but would continue to be available through Google's online web store at http://google.com/phone where users will be able to purchase a Sprint service plan along with the handset.
The Nexus One handset from Google runs on the Android 2.1 platform and supports a wide range of applications, including Google Maps navigation; multiple e-mail accounts with Gmail with a universal inbox and Exchange supports; and a unified address book that can aggregate contacts from multiple sources. It has a 3.7" AMOLED display, a 5 megapixel camera with flash, support for removable SD Cards up to 32GB and voice recognition software to aid text entry.
Although Sprint has yet to decide the price plan details for the Nexus One, the company did say that it expects that the plan will reflect its commitment to deliver consistent value to its customers while keeping pricing simple.
