European Commission directs Greece and the Czech Republic to ensure implementation of national safety checks
Mar 18, 2010 (AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION via COMTEX) --
The European Commission (EC) reported today that it has sent a reasoned
opinion to the Czech Republic and Greece as a result of the countries
failing to transpose EU legislation setting procedures for safety
checks for EU and third country aircraft using their airports.
The countries now both have two months to comply with the request.
Directive 2008/49/EC1 establishes standards for the whole European
Union related to aircraft inspections, possible measures for unsafe
aircraft and standards for the training and qualification of inspectors.
Member States were required to have implemented Directive 2008/49 by 20
October 2008, following which they had to inform the EC of the laws,
regulations and administrative provisions deployed nationally.
Greece has not yet informed the EC of any national measures to
transpose the direct and the Czech Republic has only communicated
partial transposition measures.
