China Wi-Fi Mobile Phone Shipment to Top 28mn This Year

BEIJING, Mar 19, 2010 (SinoCast Daily Business Beat via COMTEX) -- More than 28 million mobile phones based on Wi-Fi network will be shipped in China in the entire 2010, predicted In-Stat, a unit of Reed Business Information, in a report on March 19.

Output of Wi-Fi mobile phones, both smuggled and authorized, will grow at a brisk pace in the wake of the rapid expansion of Wi-Fi network across the country, according to In-Stat, noting there will be around 285,000 Wi-Fi hot spots nationwide by the end of 2010.

All the three telecom operators in the country geared up for the construction of Wireless City based on the Wi-Fi network last year.

China Telecom, one of the telecom operators, is expected to see the number of Wi-Fi hot spots top 100,000 by the end of the year. China Mobile, another of the three operators, started procuring WLAN equipment on a massive scale at the end of 2009, part of its efforts to complete the aim to deploy more than 110,000 Wi-Fi hot spots by the end of 2010.
