Pilot introducing app for drivers' iPhones

KNOXVILLE, Apr 19, 2010 (The Knoxville News-Sentinel - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Coming to an iPhone near you: a Pilot Travel Centers application for truck drivers and motorists.

The Knoxville-based travel center operator says drivers now can locate a Pilot Travel Center nearest them with the new free app.

Lynsay Caylor, social media marketing manager for Pilot, said the company also plans to add the travel center locator service to Windows Mobile and Android platforms in the near future.

Pilot customers using the app can enter the city, state, or zip code and the nearest Pilot locations, including interstate exit numbers, will pop up on the iPhone handset screen. The information will include the driver's distance from the location, restaurant information and phone number. Locations also can be opened in Google maps to receive turn-by-turn directions to the store location.


Pilot is soliciting feedback on the app and reports that early response has been favorable.

"We will refine the app and include changes in new versions in the future," said Ken Parent, Pilot senior vice president of operations and marketing. "We want to make it better for customers, so we encourage them to give us feedback." Caylor said Pilot's online travel center locator services may let the company replace the current printed travel guide to Pilot locations across the country.

Pilot operates more than 300 locations in 41 states.
