The antitrust inquiry disclosed by Google late Friday is just the latest sign of the intensifying scrutiny facing the company as it enters its adolescence. Since its inception in a Silicon Valley garage 12 years ago, Google has gone from a quirky startup to one of the world's most influential businesses with annual revenue approaching $30 billion.

But isn't getting lost part of the fun of traveling? For me, yes. For others, maybe not.

The UAE says it will block BlackBerry e-mail, messaging and Web services Oct. 11 unless authorities can gain access to the encrypted data traffic _ a demand by other countries warning of possible bans including India.

Dell's enterprise challenge remains after 3ParSEATTLE (AP) _ Dell Inc. doesn't have to start over in its quest to become a significant purveyor of technology for businesses after losing a multibillion dollar bidding contest for an obscure data-storage maker. But it won't be easy, either, for Dell to shake its "Dude, you're getting a Dell" image and move into the more profitable business of selling powerful behind-the-scenes technology to other companies.

German court rules against YouTube over copyrightBERLIN (AP) _ A German court ruled Friday that Google Inc.'s subsidiary YouTube LLC must pay compensation after users uploaded several videos of performances by singer Sarah Brightman in violation of copyright laws. The Hamburg state court said the standardized question to users about whether they have the necessary rights to publish material is not enough to relieve YouTube of the legal responsibility for the content, especially because the platform can be used anonymously.

Google, Skype targeted in India security crackdownMUMBAI, India (AP) _ India has widened its security crackdown, asking all companies that provide encrypted communications _ not just BlackBerry-maker Research In Motion _ to install servers in the country to make it easier for the government to obtain users' data. That would likely affect digital giants like Google and Skype. "People who operate communication services in India should (install a) server in India as well as make available access to law enforcement agencies," Home Secretary G.K. Pillai told reporters. "That has been made clear to RIM of BlackBerry but also to other companies." HP vs Dell: the showdown that ended in spectacleSAN FRANCISCO (AP) _ The showdown over 3Par Inc. that ended Thursday was a puzzling spectacle. AP Interview: Wikipedia founder bullish on newsCERNOBBIO, Italy (AP) _ Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales believes relief may be in sight for the beleaguered news media industry. The increasing use of the mobile Internet and for-pay "apps" that run on smart phones and other gadgets might give news providers what they've been searching for: a way to charge for digital content, Wales told The Associated Press in an interview Friday. As founder of one of the world's most popular websites, the 44-year-old American is a key Internet entrepreneur.
